Juanita Martinez, born in 1933 in the Subtanjalla District of Ica, Peru married the love of her life Luis Gonzales as a youth. In her early years, she was not allowed to work in the distillery, but she secretly learned about making Pisco from her father in law, Don Leoncio Gonzales of the famous Tres Esquinas Pisco.

She learned the wisdom and secrets of producing quality Pisco, from the pruning of the grape vines to the fermentation to the distillation. For sixty years, she produced one of the finest Piscos made in Peru. Today, she is known as the Godmother (La Madrina) of Pisco or the Lady (La Dama) of Pisco.

Beginning with Doña Juanita, three generations of women in the family have achieved unparalleled worldwide success and recognition in following the trail she blazed. La Madrina Pisco is a tribute to the legacy of a great and wonderful woman who accomplished such amazing feats in a field dominated by men for centuries.
